Q-SYS Hardware Overview

This section contains topics that describe hardware that is specific to Q-SYS system. This hardware cannot be used with another system. Click one of the following links for the details.

VIDEO TUTORIAL: There is a video tutorial available online for Q-SYS Overview.

Type 2 Hardware

Type 2 hardware provides new cables and connectors between the I/O cards and main boards in Cores and I/O Frames. Due to this change, the Type 2 hardware is not physically compatible with the older hardware. You can still integrate the new I/O Frames and Cores in the same system with older hardware, but the I/O cards are not interchangeable. Type 2 hardware can be identified by a yellow label on the back of the Core and I/O Frame, and the bottom of the I/O cards.

Core

There are several Q-SYS Cores to choose from depending on your needs. The Q-SYS Core and the Q-SYS Core 1100 | 3100 topics provide detailed information about each. Cores 1000, 3000, 4000, 1100, and 3100 have a slot for one I/O card, the Cores 250i, and 500i have eight slots for I/O cards. The Core 110f has built-in I/O. In addition, all of the Cores have two GPIO interfaces.

I/O Frame

The Q-SYS I/O Frame has one GPIO Interface, and four slots available for any four of the I/O cards.

I/O Frame 8s

The Q-SYS I/O Frame 8s has two GPIO Interfaces, and eight slots available for any eight of the I/O cards.

I/O Cards

The following I/O cards are available for installation into the Cores or I/O Frames.

DataPort Amplifier Backup Panel (DAB-801)

The DAB-801 provides N1 Amplifier redundancy for QSC DataPort amplifiers.

Q-SYS Page Station

The Q-SYS Page Station comes in four different models: PS-400, PS-800, PS-1600, and PS-1650. Each of these models has a handheld microphone version, and a gooseneck version. The functionality is essentially the same; any differences are pointed out in the documentation.

Q-SYS Page Station Expander (PS-X)

The Page Station Expander is designed to be mounted on a wall and connects directly to the rear of a Q-SYS Page Station via Cat 5e cable. Voice input is provided through a handheld dynamic push-to-talk microphone. Combining the Page Station Expander and the Page Station provide multiple inputs for a common zone, for example both the kiosk and jet-way of an airport gate can easily be served by this combination. To select the PS-X, place a Page Station in the Schematic, then set Enable Expander to Yes in the Page Station Properties.

Q-SYS I/O-22

The Q-SYS I/O-22 is a sophisticated network device that provides microphone and line level inputs, line level outputs, and amplification services for a Q-SYS audio system. The I/O-22 is a network enabled, Power over Ethernet (PoE) device. The I/O-22 products are designed to connect to a Q-SYS system via Q-LAN to which the system Core Processor(s) is connected. The I/O-22 is an Input/Output device. Analog input sources can be connected to the I/O-22 and the analog audio is converted to digital audio and sent over the Q-LAN network to the Core for Processing. Likewise, digital audio can be sent from the Core over the Q-LAN network to the I/O-22 which converts the digital signal to analog for local use.

The I/O-22 has two General Purpose Input Output (GPIO) connectors providing digital input and output control signals. An RS-232 connector on the I/O-22 allows you to make a connection to the Serial Port and Control Script components in a Q-SYS design. When a connection is made, and an appropriate Lua script written, you can control and read from devices such as DVD players, recording hardware, video, lighting, and so on. The I/O-22 includes an amplifier that can power a small (4 or 8 ohms) local loudspeaker (not included).

CXD-Q Amplifier

The CXD-Q Amplifier comes in three models CXC4.2Q, CXD4.3Q and CXD4.5Q each with different power output. The amplifier is placed in a Q-SYS design and configured for the output configuration. The inputs and outputs of the amplifier are separated in the amplifier giving you the capability of using the inputs in the same way you would use a Line Input card. In addition, you can send different audio to the amplifier's outputs than what is provided on the amplifier inputs. Of course you can connect the amplifier inputs and outputs in the design.
